Eric Hovius:

Lawyer/Negotiator

Eric Hovius; Hon. B.A., J.D. is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Saskatchewan's College of Law.  Hovius is a member of the Law Societies of Saskatchewan and Upper Canada.

At the University of Saskatchewan, Hovius specialized in Aboriginal law, while also exploring effective Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques.

Hovius articled at the Federal Department of Justice in Saskatoon, working in civil litigation, government advisory services, land claims, and tax law.  During this time he was also seconded to the Public Prosecutions Service of Canada for a four month term and clerked at the Court of Queen's Bench in Saskatoon.

Hovius returned to Ontario, to further pursue a career in Aboriginal law, first working for the Ontario Government in the area of land claims intake and research, at the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs, and later as a provincial negotiator for both specific and comprehensive land claims.

Beginning in August 2010, Eric Hovius established Ab Law Professional Corporation (Ab-Law.ca) to continue to specialize in all areas of Aboriginal law, with a focus on finding an acceptable balance between the concerns of Aboriginal communities and that of industry.

He now works for/with First Nations, Tribal Councils, Municipalities, Corporations, as well as those who affect Aboriginal communities prior to developing a project.
